Determine if patient is new or returning, emergency or non-emergency, reason for visit, insurance coverage and convenient time and place for visit.
Verify all demographic information from patient and enter accurate information into the computer system.
Make sure a referral is obtained, if needed.
One day before patient's scheduled visit, make sure patients are called to remind them of appointments, copays, deductibles and billing procedures.
Make sure all relevant records are in the chart (ultrasounds, mammograms, CT Scans, etc.
).
If patient is seen in a satellite office, be certain that files are prepared for transport to that location.
When a patient's visit is complete, greet patient in discharge area to do one or a combination of the following tasks:
Schedule patient for preadmission testing with pcp, if applicable.
Schedule patient for surgery or colonoscopy- check coverage and precertify, fax scheduling to the hospital, confirm date and time with hospital.
Bring all preop information to surgeon 2 days before for review and signature.
Fax all preop information to the hospital 2 days before and confirm receipt by phone call.
