Patient Service Assistant

This position is located within the Diagnostic Imaging Service at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Haven, Connecticut.
Incumbent will occasionally work in Newington, Connecticut.
The employee provides administrative program support for the sections within the Imaging Department.
The incumbent performs these responsibilities with self-direction in the processing, care, and treatment of veterans and functions as a team member in the patient care delivery setting.
The incumbent must balance administrative and clinical duties based on immediate patient needs and availability of various imaging equipment and staff.
Major duties include, but not limited to:
o Screening requests originating both internally and externally for completeness and appropriateness.
o Obtaining all information required to approve requests and schedule procedures.
o Triaging requests according to urgency.
Registering patients for prodedures.
o Answering phone calls and taking messages and/or paging individuals as necessary.
o Performing a wide variety of record keeping, reporting and informational duties.
o Providing all images and requests to Radiologist.
o Obtaining had copy radiographs or soft copy images of patients who have had diagnostic imaging exams.
o Locating images on computerized Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS)o Notifying supervisors of inconsistencies in case numbers or missing images.
o Training patients/physicians and house staff on policies regarding release of radiographic records and patient file information.
o Preparing radiographic examinations.
o Screening and scheduling exams according to criteria established by the Diagnostic Imaging Service.
o Operating VISTA, CPRS, and Radiology PACS System.
o Cross-referencing exams by case number, patient name, SS#, and additional information to track film, and distinguish the data of exam when not on the film.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
