Histotechnologist (Surgical Grossing)

Serves as the Histology and Surgical Grossing Technologist in the Anatomic Pathology and Histopathology section of the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service, VA Connecticut Healthcare System.
Assumes responsibility for surgical, cytology, and autopsy specimens after they are received in the laboratory, since many tissue specimens are difficult or impossible to replace.
Ensures the identity of specimens is maintained throughout all stages of preparation.
Performs all elements of gross examination and sectioning of all types of surgical pathology specimens and preparing specimens for analysis according to the specifications of the procedure.
Under the direction of the Health Science Specialist and/or Lead Histotechnologist, resolves all minor and major specimen accessioning problems.
Performs technical preparation of both routine and special tissues including, but not limited to, needle and punch biopsies, bone marrow aspirations, most tissues and tissue biopsies, tissues from autopsies, brain, eye and bone (by fixing and decalcifying when necessary), dehydrating, clearing, infiltrating with paraffin (using manual and automated equipment), embedding in paraffin, cutting this sections using microtomes, performing routine H&E staining, cover slipping and labeling the slides.
Function as assistants to anatomic pathologists by participating in gross autopsy dissection.
Prepares frozen tissue sections for special immunological studies which includes; selecting, freezing, cutting (microtomy) and staining Tissue for Rush (Frozen Section) exam by the Pathologist.
Employs the cryostat.
Assists in the compiling of Laboratory data for required statistical reports.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
