Prosthetic Representative

This position is located in the Prosthetic Service at the VA Connecticut Health Care System at the West Haven, CT campus.
The duties of the Prosthetic Representative are to administer and perform work concerned with rendering prosthetic and sensory aids services to disabled patients.
The incumbent will share in the management of all phases of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service Specialty Programs.
The duties for this position may include, but are not limited to:
GS-05:
Authorize and prepare purchase orders;Assists in monitoring contracts for compliance to statement of work;Assists in receiving analyzing, and processing requests for prosthetic equipment and services;Assists in identifying and selecting national CMS/Health Care Procedul Coding Systems (HSPCS) codes are entered for every item purchased through and/or billed to ensure proper reporting;Assists in analyzing, reviewing and evaluating the results of various monitors and databases;Authorize benefit payment and reimbursement;Other duties as assigned.
GS-07:
Assists with advising clinicians with regard to selection, prescription, and acquisition of prosthetic devices which involves furnishing information concerning such matters as new developments in the field of prosthetics and sources of supply for such devices;Assist with the processing of prescriptions by making certain that proper prosthetic devices are selected for, or by, the patients;Assists with the authorization of the purchase, fabrication or repair of prosthetic devices;Other duties as assigned.
GS-09:
Responsible for ensuring that all prosthetic services are carried out in accordance with established policies, practices and goals of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aides Service (PSAS) and the VACT HCS;Manages and/or assists with the Home Improvement and Structural Alteration (HISA) grant program, Automobile Adaptive Equipment (AAE) program, and othe programs by distributing workload for and among staff;Other duties as assigned.
GS-11:
Determining the eligibility and entitlement of Veterans receiving prosthetic appliances or services based upon a highly complex array of factors.
Counseling beneficiaries (including home visits to severly disabled Veterans who are unable to travel to the facility) concerning their eligibility to receive prosthetic/orthotic appliances, devices, accessories, repairs, replacements, spares, and related training.
Maintains familiarity with overall VA policies, programs, and a range of benefits potentially available to eligible Veterans and their families.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
